Troy

In Troy’s society they expect the men to work and kind of carry the family financially because in the book Troy is always real tight with the money especially in the book when Lyon is trying to borrow ten dollars; he even says it to his wife rose when she asks can their son borrow it, he says “I aint got no ten dollars. You know what I do with my money. “Saying basically he doesn’t have it to give and how the money he uses goes to what is important. And I believe troy is a good man; he means well when it comes to his family but he just has a hard time showing it I feel like. In the story for instance when he is talking to Lyon about how he is trying to live the fast life. I don’t think he was necessarily saying that Lyon wont amount to anything if he doesn’t just go out and get a decent job, he’s just trying to make him look at the reality they are living in and think about the circumstances they live by. What makes troy weak is his lack of supporting his children in what they want to do as a father it is his job to always support your children in something that can potentially bring the better for them but what makes him strong is he cares, at the end of the day he loves his children and family and he means well for all of them he just comes off stronger than most. In our society men standards are more to it than just being the man of the house and more standing by your wife to help bettering your house and family instead of trying to do it all but I don’t think Troy would be able to live up to those because he’s too stuck in his ways and only sees it as the man does everything

  1. I agree with you that Troy does what he does for the benefit of his family. He tries his hardest to be the best father he can be. Although it may not sound very loving he means well.

  2. I totally agree with you, its hard to tell but Troy actually does really care about his family. Since you didn't talk about his relation ship with Cory I think its the same exact thing. He seems to be mean because he is telling his son he can't play football and he needs to get a job. But it is for Cory's own good, this is shown in a conversation between Rose and Troy "Why don't you let the boy go ahead and play football, Troy? Ain't no harm in that. He just trying to be like you with the sports" and Troy replies "I don't want him to be like me! I want him to move as far away from my life as he can get." (Wilson 39) which shows he doesn't want Cory to make the same mistakes that he did.
