Can you be happy?

From the reading “ fences “ the view of happiness is about having fun and enjoying what you have as much as possible,  I say this because in the reading the son of troy, Cory loves to play football and troy disagrees with him trying to play football but rose the wife and mother of Cory agrees with Cory trying to peruse and do the thing he loves the most, every time Cory comes from or goes to Football he is all exited and is all ready for it, and here is quote from the book that shows Cory’s emotions towards football “Cory: Did you tell him about the recruiter? Rose: Yeah, I told him. Cory: What he say?” this shows Cory excited that there was a recruiter there watching and Rose was asking if he was tell Troy but he knows how he is about the situation with football. Rose is always there for her kids and she always supports Cory with the dreams he wants, this quote here shows that Rose is standing up for Cory towards Troy “Rose: Let the boy have ten dollars, Troy” … Lyons: Thanks, Rose. Look… I got to run... I’ll see you later. (Wilson 19) in this quote Rose shows that she tries to help him get the ten dollars from Troy, but instead Lyons helps out and gives the ten bucks. Rose is very very supportive and when Troy and Rose got into a fight troy doesn't think that Rose doesn't give or support the family but when she actually helps the kids out in her time that she has with them  “Rose: Why don’t you let the boy go ahead and play football, Troy? Ain't no harm in that. He’s just trying to be like you with the sports.” (Wilson 39) this quote shows rose telling troy that his kids are trying to be like their father but since troy doesn't think Cory can do it he shoots his dreams down.

Our society is viewed as if you get what you want and you receive it you will be happy, and a lot of people say money doesn't create happiness but in the inside with money everything is easier so people try to hide that from others because some are unfortunate and don’t have as much money as others do. But the main thing is if you have enough money for yourself and you don’t have as much use to it you should be able to help out others in a useful way, but others feel they don’t deserve it because they don’t see the effort they put in by just sitting out in the streets asking for money, I feel if more of those kind of people show that they are trying and putting in the hard work to put their lives back together deserve the money.

I feel that these two definitions of happiness is very similar but the idea of doing what you feel is supported by both the book and our society as it is now. Receiving the things you want isn’t really shown in the book because for Troy and his family money is pretty low in budget. But maybe if they could buy the things they wanted it might bring more happiness as a family.

  1. I agree with you when you said the idea of happiness is similar in the book and in the society because even though troy doesn't have that much money he would've at lease show some love to his sons and wife. Money is a major problem in today's society and people use that to make themselves happy.

  2. One point from your blog that I found interesting is when you said Happiness in the text "Fences" revolves around having fun. I agree, this is exactly what Troy did, he had fun and in return it made him happy.
