Blog post 2

Troy’s society expects a man to provide for his family, that means going to work, making money, putting a roof over their heads, putting food on the table and clothes on their back. And not wasting time on unnecessary things. For example Troy makes sure that Cory and Rose have a roof over their heads, he make sure they eat every day, have clothes on their back and more (Wilson 37-38). Another example is that Troy think football is unnecessary and isn’t going to get Cory anywhere in life. “If you can’t do both… then you quit the football team. You’ve got to take the crooked with the straights.” (Wilson 36-37)   This really show that Troy recommends working and making money then play sports.  I really thing Troy is a good man but he’s just really strict and he just wants his children to end up better then him and not make the same mistakes that he did. “I don’t want him to be like me! I want him to move as far away from my life as he can get. You the only decent thing that happen to me. I wish him that.” (Wilson 39) The only place I think he’s weak is where he doesn’t understand or he doesn’t put himself in his children’s shoes and that he’s really not flexible. I think his strengths might be that he’s hard working and he always pushes Cory and Lyons to do things that will help them even if they don’t agree, and also his experiences in life for example he wanted to play baseball and that all he did, but in the end he didn’t get anything out of it and so he pushing Cory to work and not focus on football so much because he know if he does then maybe in the end Cory will end up the same way he did.

  1. I agree but I believe that Troy does care for his kids in some ways he just doesn't like to say, it he shows it through his actions. He always looks out for there best interests . "I don't care where he coming from. The white man ain't gonna let you get nowhere with that football no way. You go on and get your book-learning so you can work yourself up in the A&P or learn how to fix cars or build houses or something, get you a trade. That way you have something can't nobody take away from you. You go on and learn how to put your hands to some good use. Besides hauling people's garbage"(Wilson 35). He is always looking out for Corey's best interests.
