Troy
Troy is a father a husband a brother, has control and a breadwinner
to his family, he is described as an African-American male with huge body which qualifies him
for his job. In the society Troy lived in, a man was expected to be a breadwinner,
and a hard worker that works with his hands. And he met all these standards. I
think he is the definition of a man at that time, he survived a time of
discrimination.
I believe he is a good
man with good intentions like his relationship with his son Cory and not
accepting Cory to play football “I
decided seventeen years ago that by wasn’t getting involved in no sports.” And
his decision was based on his experience as a former athlete. He wants Cory
have a job and assure a life where he can have food and shelter. Troy looks
like a strong man but he suffers within himself he feels regret that he wasn’t
there for his song Lyon, and he feels bad for using his brother for money.
Troy always expresses
his love to his wife but sometimes kind of get out of the right road. His friend
Bono says "I ain’t saying that. I see where you be eyeing her.” Which gives me
an indication that he is not honest with Rose. I think if Troy lived in a very different setting but if he was in the same
setting then he definitely would be considered a man in the society I grew
up in. His toughness and control is understandable since they lived in a
very tough conditions. I feel like Troy is a good man with good intentions.
Good job! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like that you mentioned he doesn't want his boy playing football, because of his past being an athlete. Part of me thinks it's horrible that he's doing this to his kid. Choosing his path for him. But part of me has to agree with that decision. He doesn't want his kid to get hurt the way he did, he wants him to be prepared for the world to attack him, getting education and experience will prepare him because that's something you can never take away (Experiance from school/working at the shop).
