Troy Maxson

What society expects from a man all depends on who you are and where you come from. Troy’s society expects a man to be the rock of the family. The person who everyone can lean on and come to for support. Troy’s society expects men to make all the money and support their loved ones in every way possible. Troy is expected to provide for his son and wife, bring food to the table and keep a roof over his and his families head. Troy is always supposed to know what to do in whatever situation he comes across and pick the most responsible option to do.  For example, when Cory came over and was telling Troy that he should buy a TV, Troy gave him a whole talk on how it’s more important to but priorities first instead of going with the flow and buying things just for entertainment.

In my opinion, Troy is a hardworking, responsible man whose thwarted dreams make him prone to believing in self-created illusions. He tries his best to support his family by working hard and making money to keep a roof over their head and bring food to the table. Although he is a good man, he still has his weaknesses that aren't so appealing. He tends to think that he’s always right and anyone that disagrees is wrong and he’ll argue and argue until his point is across and you can’t do anything but just go along with what he’s saying. Troy is very strong when it comes to being a family man but he needs to tone done on the arrogance and accept the fact that he isn't the only one that knows the difference between right and wrong. For example, when he was telling his son that he wont get anywhere in the professional sports field just because hes black. Troy should let his son try out the great opportunity that has came up for him instead of being negative and just thinking about what could go wrong.

Our current standers society has for men is for them to be hardworking family men and Troy is a perfect example of that. He works his butt off every day to give him and his family a good life. “I get up Monday morning . . . find my lunch on the table. I go out. Make my way. Find my strength to carry me through to the next Friday.” Troy lives up to the standards that are set for men in our society. He’s living a perfect example of being the “man of the house".
