Troy’s Society expects of a man is that he is a hardworking
man and will do whatever he has to do to provide for his family, he brings home
money to put food on the table for his wife and his son and also puts a roof
over their head so they have a place where they can sleep at night. “I go out
of here every morning… bust my butt… putting up with them crackers every day…
cause I like you? You about the biggest fool I ever saw. It’s my job. It’s my
responsibility! You understand that? A man’s got to take care of his family”
(Wilson, 38). This means Troy is serious about providing for is family and will
do any and everything for them because it’s his job to do so. I believe Troy is
a good man because instead of him buying a TV like his son Cory wanted him to
do, he is more concerned about his home improvements such as his new roof that
needs to be put on his house. “Two hundred and sixty-four dollars… cash money.
While you thinking about a TV, I got to be thinking about the roof… and whatever
else go wrong around here”(Wilson,32). This shows that he rather spend his money
on his house other than some entertainment that is not necessary. The current
standards that our society has for men is to be hard workers, also the head of
the household. I would say that troy lives up to these standards since he is
the breadwinner of the house.
Looks good Shamar! I think your analysis of Troy is pretty solid. A lot of people do not experience parenting like the parenting Troy is giving and while it might be unfamiliar that does not mean that it is wrong. You used your in text citations really well to back up your points and shined a light on Troy's contributions to the family really well.
ReplyDeleteSounds good! I like your enthusiasm towards the subject and how you use your wordings. Your quotes show that whether he likes it or not, he does it anyway because that is what he has to do regardless of the situation.
