Troy final good byes

Troy was a man of many things he was a father, brother, husband and most of all a friend to others. Like most things people relied on him mostly on money and maybe some support here and there. All troy was trying to do was bring home the bacon and most people wouldn’t survive without him. Troy was stretch to the fullest on make sure everything in the house hold was being taken care of.

 “Troy Like you? I go out here every morning….. Bust my butt… putting up with them crackers every day … cause I like you? You about the biggest fool I ever saw” (Wilson 38). Even though in this part it may seem that troy is being hard on his boy but only just to get his son to understand its just tough love.

“it’s my job. It’s my responsibility! You understand that? A man got to take care of his family you live in my house ….. Sleep you behind on my bedclothes… fill you belly up with my food… cause you my son. You my flesh and blood not cause I like you! Cause it my duty to take care of you I owe a responsibility to you! Let’s get this straight right here… before it go along any further … I aint got to like you. Mr. Rand don’t give me my money come payday cause he likes me. He gives me cause he owe me. I done give you everything I had to give you. I gave you your life….”(Wilson 38)

 What troy was trying to  have Cory realize is that it I do love you son but I am not going to treat you will your mom does I am going to treat you like a man  and show you and tell you what a man does  you may not like it but you have to hear it.

 As the years go on troy and Cory  relationship kinds of shifts  in a way Cory finally a stands up to his dad  how his way is not the best way  but then he realize it’s for the best that he should leave

What’s the matter? You so bad… put me out” (Wilson 88)

The way troy shape and develop  his legacy that  he made something out of his son.

Happiness

Happiness means in the text Fences is that being with you friends and family and being able to the one around you happy but at the same time keep yourself to being happy to. Like for example rose get on her son Corey about making sure that he helps his dad put up then fence then she would have to deal with one angry man because he could do it by himself. But in reality rose knows that her son would rather be out living his dream and doing what he loves then help his dad put up a fence that they are working on. “He aint said nothing to much. You get in there and get started on your chores before he gets back. Go on and scrub down the steps before  he gets back here hollering and carrying on”(Wilson29) and in this part rose values to  keep her man happy but at the same time still try to keep he son happy as well. If I was Corey I would try to live out my dream even if my dad doesn’t want me to but at the end of the day I am doing what I love and if I put my all into what I want then I will do whatever it takes like quite my job. I think that society is glamorized because for example in the song Happy by Pharrell Williams he says that I feel like a room without a roof. But yet in the same instance he would be okay with a room without a roof and still find a way to be happy.  How the two differ is that in the song he was just happy with four walls but in the book the fences he had everything and still was even happy so society has a different aspect of things.

Troy

What the people from troy society in this time period is that they are expected to be the bread winner and to make sure that the family is taken care of still be able to hang out with the family. I think troy is a good man to a certain extent because he is weak when he is talking to his son about if there is a law saying that I have to like you I give you all of your essential stuff that you need like food, clothing, basically all the stuff that he need to survive in the world   Another reason on why I think troy is weak is because he wouldn't let his son live his dream of playing football because his dream of being a baseball player didn't work out as he thought it would be .Troy is strong when it comes to looking at the bigger pictures of things even though “while you thinking about a TV I got to be thinking about the roof and whatever else goes wrong  around here”(Wilson32). He has been reject a few times for something he loves and just doesn’t   want that to happened this son because he loves what he does few mistakes in the past but all he is trying to is to make sure that his son doesn't go thought the same heart break even thought his son wants to be hard headed and goes behind his dad back. But at the end of the day he don’t want to crush his son but it would be hard for him because of them being black and trying to play sports. Are society have for men is  the man is a breadwinner  who brings the money home to support his family  troy would live up to the standards but he just would be unhappy about it 

August Wilson

The legacy of August Wilson was that he was the first African American that did a complete cycle but the other that have tried didn’t completely finish them but he did. His legacy reveal a larger message about how the race and power and language can affect any part in a person’s life. So in the spirt of august Wilson he didn’t reach the success without some down falls but even the facts that of him dropping out of high was a down fall because it never stopped him. He wasn’t just impacting the theater he impacted a lot of people in his tracks even his last wife before he passed away Judy Oliver says “August was very excited about it. I knew what he wanted in terms of casting and other things and being involved was a gift to me. It helped me with my grieving.”(Berson) but the fact that she was being involved about her late husband work and to this day she still too continues his work because she was involved of the process “I love his plays. And they will always bring him back to me” (Berson).

                 His legacy reveal a larger message because  when he was out in about in the streets he  knew and understood the struggles  of how African Americans were being treated  and what better way of writing then write about something that was close to heart and that is what he did. But he was inspired by Ed Bullins because it was his first time he saw a black character of that type for example “ what they would  call in today’s language the underclass present onstage." (Kachka)
