How do we, as individuals and a community, shape, develop, and ultimately pass on a legacy?

Happiness
Happiness
means in the text Fences is that
being with you friends and family and being able to the one around you happy
but at the same time keep yourself to being happy to. Like for example rose get
on her son Corey about making sure that he helps his dad put up then fence then
she would have to deal with one angry man because he could do it by himself. But
in reality rose knows that her son would rather be out living his dream and
doing what he loves then help his dad put up a fence that they are working on. “He
aint said nothing to much. You get in there and get started on your chores before
he gets back. Go on and scrub down the steps before he gets back here hollering and carrying on”(Wilson29)
and in this part rose values to keep her
man happy but at the same time still try to keep he son happy as well. If I was
Corey I would try to live out my dream even if my dad doesn’t want me to but at
the end of the day I am doing what I love and if I put my all into what I want
then I will do whatever it takes like quite my job. I think that society is
glamorized because for example in the song Happy by Pharrell Williams he says
that I feel like a room without a roof. But yet in the same instance he would
be okay with a room without a roof and still find a way to be happy. How the two differ is that in the song he was
just happy with four walls but in the book the fences he had everything and
still was even happy so society has a different aspect of things.

I agree with your analysis on Cory's happiness. I also would like to add on that Troy is not happy at all with Cory getting recruited because he himself never got a chance to go pro. He thinks the world has not changed at all. Troy believes his own happiness over all. As do lots of people in today's society. You made a good connection between Happy and Cory,
ReplyDeleteJhonay! Loved your post :)
ReplyDelete"But in reality rose knows that her son would rather be out living his dream and doing what he loves then help his dad put up a fence that they are working on." This part really stood out to me, and honestly angers me every time I think about it. Troy is such a cruel man. He has the idea of looking out for his son making sure he has the education and what he needs for life. But he's taking away his dream. He's selfish and jealous that he couldn't take that route in life so he's making sure his child cant do it too.
Jhonay, great post! Though, remember to triple-check your posts for errors. Additionally, I disagree with you. You said, "I think that society is glamorized because for example in the song Happy by Pharrell Williams he says that I feel like a room without a roof. But yet in the same instance he would be okay with a room without a roof and still find a way to be happy. How the two differ is that in the song he was just happy with four walls but in the book the fences he had everything and still was even happy so society has a different aspect of things." I believe that happiness is not over idealized. Everyone strives to be happy. We may exaggerate, though we all have the goal of being happy. Happiness is a feeling we all want. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI liked your post, although I think fences happiness is not about being with your friends and family but more of each individual character has a different meaning of happiness themselves. Like with Troy it is this new woman who can take him away from his responsibilities and make him laugh and really just be himself (Wilson 69).
