Troy was a family man and so his responsibility is
not providing for his family but also putting them on a straight path. His legacy was his wisdom that he had left behind for his family. Lyons states “You got to take the crooked
with the straights. That’s what papa used to say” This shows how he really
wanted his family to understand that there are going to be bad times and then
there are going to be good times and then there are going to be times where you
have to make sacrifices that are difficult and so you have to take the crooked with
the straight. In the text we see how Troy sacrifices his relationship with Rose
and cheats on her in order to feel happy and have no worries and to feel free
but all of that also damaged his relationship with rose. We also see the good
and the bad throughout the text “Your daddy wanted you to be everything he wasn’t
and at the same time he tried to make you into everything he was. He meant to
do more good than he meant harm.” This shows how Troy really wanted for Cory to
have a good future and so by pushing him it put a strain in his relationship
with his son because even though he meant well Cory wanted to be the one that decide
his own fate. So from there Cory did ultimately have a good future and joined
the United States Marines.
