Troy is a strong man that know what he wants from his life
and what he can get, for this he want from his son what he couldn’t have, but
this goes against Cory desire. Cory only dream is to be a professional football
player and go to college, but Troy, for his personal experience, believes that
he will not be successful as he can be and did not let his son follow his
dream. This make Troy a good person because he wants just the best for his son,
but at the same time he is not being a good father not believing in his son
ability and not supporting him. He has the same relation with his older son Lyons
that wants to be a musician but, for now, this is not paying him enough to
afford his life and he have to ask money to his father to maintain his family.
Troy’s society expect from him to be quite and not bother
anyone if he wants to maintain his life, because he is African American he
cannot have the same privileges that the white part of the society has. The society
in this period of time did not let the African Americans be a part of it, they
were treated with less respect and often not even considered. Troy knew it and
decided to follow the rules and do just what he needed to do to be someone
without expecting too much.
I think the society now have different standards, now African
Americans have the same respect every white person has and are part of the
society as everyone else. I believe that Troy would have some difficulties to
live in our society, because he is more use to live the life that he has and
not try to get more.
I agree with your third paragraph. Society does have different standards and African Americans get the same respect. I took it a different way when I answered and looked at the overall population of men and how they have to live up to standards such as income. Men today are stereo-typically the ones who provide for the families. They are the strength and their children and spouse are dependent of them. In the first part of your response I was just wondering, do you think Troy is a good man or not? You state "Troy is a strong man that know what he wants from his life and what he can get, for this he want from his son what he couldn’t have, but this goes against Cory desire", but do you think that he is a good man or do you think he just goes by the expectations of a father. What I mean by that is, do you feel he "owes it" to his children or does he genuinely want whats best?
