Troy Maxson's Personality

As a husband and father, Troy is protective and stern. He takes care of his family and loves them more than they realize. He is always looking for what’s best for them. This is a strength, but can also be a weakness. It is a strength because he is always looking ahead; he looks for what is going to be more beneficial in the future. This can also be a weakness because he does not focus on the here and now. I think that Troy’s society feels that a man should rule the house, much like Troy does. I believe that his society thinks that the man of the house should be making all the money and taking care of the household. Troy definitely fits into this part perfectly.
Although Troy is angry occasionally, I think that he is a good man. He provides for his family as much as he can. “While you thinking about a TV, I got to be thinking about the roof…and whatever else go wrong around here. Now if you had two hundred dollars, what would you do…fix the roof or buy a TV?” (Wilson32). Although Troy would most likely also be interested in a TV, he knows that he has to do whatever it takes to provide a stable environment for his family. This is why he is so set on fixing the roof rather than getting a TV. He is a good man because although he might have weaknesses in him that he acknowledges, he is too proud and confident to let anyone else see them. He wants to show everyone just how strong he really is.
I think that our society now thinks that the man of the household should be able to provide, but he should also be accepting. This is a quality that Troy is not. Troy always gets his way. Everyone listens to him and does what he says. I think that in our current society, a father and husband are more willing to listen to others and follow their ideas. I do not believe that Troy could live up to these standards because he is so stuck in his own ways.

  2. Exactly how I feel. Troy is just one of those dads who just come across as the mean type but he really means well. You said it right he's just stern.

  3. I like how you worded everything. Also you put evidence to help prove your writing and it helped it. You should be more specific in some parts of your writing like the last part with him being a man in our society or not.
