There are always those parents that get really protective
towards their kids and some agree it is okay to be protective and some feel
that they should let them do what they want or hangout late at night, but the
point is in this blog there is a character named Troy in the book called “Fences
“and Troy has two sons named Lyons and another named Cory. I see troy as a
strict and responsible father the reason why is because he looks out for his
sons and he is trying to make their future better than it should be, but as
kids getting in trouble we don’t understand why some of the parents out there
just get mad at their kids for acting bad and staying out late, but to them it
is for your own good. Here is a quote from the book “Fences” “What I tell you
Bono? The only time I see this nigger is when he wants something. That’s the
only time I see him”. (Wilson 16) this quote shows his son asking him for some
money and he comes every month to get money and his dad is tired of giving
money away to him if he keeps spending all of his money instead of saving his
money and using it for the future because money slips away quick and he wants
his son to live a good life. Another quote showing that troy trying to help his
son’s future is “I thought we had an understanding about this football stuff?
You suppose to keep up with your chores and hold that job down at the A&P.”
(Wilson 35) in this quote one of his sons wants to play football and his father
disagrees with his decision because he feels that working at A&P would be
the best choice because he gets a head start to being successful with starting
out his life with money in his pocket, adding on to that quote this is another
reason why his dad feels like he won’t be able to play as much because “If they
got a white fellow sitting on the bench… you can bet your last dollar he can’t
play! The colored guy got to be twice as good before he get on the team.”
(Wilson 34) Troy feels that he won’t be able to play because of the colored
guys are getting better just to play and he feels he won’t be able to start in
a game. But all of these quotes coming from the book shows that Troy is a
strict and responsible father and his just doing his job as a father for their
kids future.
When you mentioned that he looks out for his sons I totally agreed. Whenever they come around he wants them to go and find a stable job so they can support themselves. He's looking out for them so they can have a better future, Cory came to him asking about the recruiter and he told Cory to not bother with sports because it didn't do anything for him. He wants them to be successful and to be able to support their families as he's doing now.
